Apple announced the much anticipated fourth generation Apple TV at its media event in San Francisco, California along with IPhone 6S and IPhone 6S Plus. The new Apple TV features a App store, Siri remote and tvOS.
The design is much like its predecessors (set up box style), but this it’s a little bit bigger and taller. The best part of the design is the touch based remote called ‘Siri Remote’.
The remote is minimally designed, which includes a glass touch pad that allows you to tap and swipe like the screen of touch device and a few buttons for menu, home and media control.
The exciting feature of the entire thing is probably the integration of Siri. Pressing the provided button on the remote will wake Siri up and you can summon it up to search and play your favorite music, videos. You can also surf content from your favorite popular streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Pandora.
Wait that’s not over yet, you can ask questions like, “who is starring in the movie?” and Siri would answer it by opening a window across the bottom of the screen, providing you with the casting information. Also you can play with it by asking it play some horror movies, show updates of your favorite sports etc.
The Apple TV runs on tvOS which is a revamped and optimized version of iOS, to suit the requirements of Apple TV.
The tvOS would allow the integration of apps inside the TV and you can download them from Store.
Here are some specifications of the 4th gen Apple TV:
The Apple TV is available with either 32GB or 64GB of storage, which will be used for downloading apps, and it includes Bluetooth 4.0, 801.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO and an IR receiver. The remote works over Bluetooth 4.0, so line of sight is not required, and its battery will last for up to three months on a single charge. Recharging the remote is done through a built-in Lightning connector.
Coming to the price and availability, the Apple TV is priced at $149 for the 32 GB version and $199 for the 64 GB version and the shipping will begin at the end of October in nearly 80 countries.
