CuriousBytes: You might have come across various Hollywood movies where the hackers take down any network in just minutes by typing furiously at the keyboard. We are not sure if the so-called hackers are aware of the term hacking.

One thing that is found commonly in most of the hacking scenes in Hollywood is that the hacker’s machine has a screen with a dark terminal running ASCII text or matrix styled random numbers.

The fact is that it takes months of practice and years of experience to become a professional hacker.

If you don’t have time to do so, then you can at least pretend like a hacker in Hollywood style and prank your friends like a hacker

There is a tool that turns your Linux terminal into a Hollywood styled hacking terminal. With this tool, you can actually become a Hollywood hacker in just a couple of minutes.

How to install “Hollywood” hacking terminal in Linux?

The tool we mentioned above is called “Hollywood“. You heard it right its Hollywood. This tiny tool creates multiple random numbered split windows with some text running in them.

The tool has several interesting features with hacker effects.:

  • It generates a random hacker terminal, every time you launch this tool.
  • It can play background music, the mission theme is pretty awesome.
  • The tool is based on Byobu, a text-based window manager developed by Dustin Kirkland of Ubuntu.

Ubuntu users can simply install it by running the following command.

sudo apt install hollywood

If that doesn’t work for your Ubuntu installation or any other Ubuntu-based Linux distributions like Mint, Elementary os or Zorin you can get it from belowPPAa.

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:hollywood/ppa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install byobu hollywood

You can also compile it from the source code of Hollywood which is available on GitHub.

Once installed you need to first run the byobu terminal and then enter the command, hollywood, from the command line and prank your friends with Hollywood hacking skills.

This trick might make you popular in your friend zone but might not work in the long run. Just in case if you want to uninstall this and focus on real hacking art you can use below command to uninstall.

sudo apt-get remove byobu hollywood
